Coming straight from Eastern Siberia (Ulan Ude, Russia) is Taxon Lazare with the deliciously retro minimalist synthpop album “Прощай, ностальгия” (Proshchay, nostal’giya, or “Goodbye Nostalgia”)!
“Goodbye Nostalgia” is a beautiful piece of old-school synthpop that features a host of unique, interesting melodies and eastern synth sounds not often found in U.S. releases. I highly recommend a listen! Although I could not understand a single bit of the lyrics the nostalgia transcends the language barrier.
In fact, I found “Прощай, ностальгия” more engaging than many English language releases I hear nowadays.
Foreign language music is all too often ignored in the U.S., and it’s important to note the retrosynth and synthwave movements are happening all over the world – just like the sounds they emulate became a worldwide phenomenon in the 80s.
Russian synth label Retrowave Touch Records has been putting out a lot of fantastic synthwave from our eastern brothers in synths a while now – and Belarusian wunderkind Molchat Doma is setting up for a USA tour this coming spring! (If you haven’t listened yet, I highly recommend their album we reviewed here, as they even hit our top 10 albums list for 2017!)
