Mega Drive – Neuroframe

MegaDrive Neuroframe

The cyberpunk grandmaster Mega Drive has returned with the deliciously deviant “Neuroframe!” This incredible mix of darksynth and cyberpunk serves as a fantastic update to the Mega Drive sound, and in my opinion, is the best release we’ve heard from Mega Drive since his seminal 198XAD released way back in 2014!

The Texas-based producer Mega Drive is known for intensely savage rhythms and haunting sounds plucked straight out of a gritty 80s cyberpunk action flick. He’s released quite a few albums now, so this seasoned producer knows his way around a synth or two. However in spite of that experience, “Neuroframe” still has improved upon the Mega Drive sound. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t say that Mega Drive has ever produced a bad album, but the last few releases had begun to feel like iterations of his tried-and-true sound.

Not so with “Neuroframe!” The production here is noticeably more crisp, the arrangement of the track is more varied, and perhaps most importantly – the melodies contained within are absolutely stellar. In previous releases sometimes the melody felt overshadowed a bit by the percussion, but with “Neuroframe” they shine through a particular poignant quality we haven’t heard before.

Not only that, but the layered lead also seem to move from major to minor more often, giving tracks a sense of movement and progression as opposed to the flat-out-high-speed-burn of previous releases. They blend together with the perfectly executed atmosphere and percussion to create a truly astounding listening experience.

In my opinion, this is the best release we’ve heard from Mega Drive in quite a while, and not one you want to miss! I really hope it gets released in a physical format soon!
