Fantastic Short Documentary Features Satellite Young!

Toco toco has just released thorough profile of Emi Kusano, the retro-future idol behind synthpop sensation Satellite Young. A “documentary series showcasing Japanese creators and the places that inspire them,” toco toco tv follows Kusano to her favorite places in Tokyo as she explains her influences and how Satellite Young was formed.

From 80’s music videos to early anime and her father’s retro-style as a designer, Kusano was surrounded by early media from a young age. She details these influences and provides thoughtful insights into her views of how culture has changed in the digital age.

“In the 80’s, before the internet was around, there was more of a “mass” culture. Everyone would be passionate about what would air on TV or be in the latest movie. I feel a bit sad that we can’t go back to that world, which is how I fell in love with it.” Check it out below, and check out Satellite Young’s latest EP, “Sanfransokyo Girl” which features Sunglasses Kid and Sellorekt/LA Dreams!
